*When it is time for you to consign some or all of your collection, what do you need to know when choosing which auction to consign to?*
1.) First and most important, what prices does each auction get for the same or similar items? Have they previously auctioned many items similar to what you are considering consigning, and can you see the results of those items? Does each auction have an online database of *ALL *their past results? Do they guarantee that all results are accurate, and no results where the sale did not happen at the stated price have been deleted? If this information is not on their site, ask them for the answer, and ask them to post it on their site. 2.) What is the rate you will charged at each price level? Do they charge confusing "buyers premiums"? Compare what the buyer pays (including buyers premiums, if any) to what you as the consignor receives to see how much you will actually pay. If this information is not on their site, ask them for the answer, and ask them to post it on their site. 3.) How long has each auction been auctioning movie posters, and how many have they auctioned? What have their total sales been, year by year? If this information is not on their site, ask them for the answer, and ask them to post it on their site. 4.) How many employees do they have (both as a whole, and working solely on auctioning movie paper)? If this information is not on their site, ask them for the answer, and ask them to post it on their site. 5.) If you have dealt with them as a buyer, how has that experience been for you? If it did not go smoothly, ask yourself if you want to consign to an auction that treated you poorly as a buyer, because that is certainly a good indicator of how you will be treated as a seller. 6.) How often do they hold movie paper auctions, and how many items do they auction in a year? If this information is not on their site, ask them for the answer, and ask them to post it on their site. 7.) Do they provide detailed references from past consignors on their site? If this information is not on their site, ask them for the answer, and ask them to post it on their site. 8.) Search the Internet to see if other consignors have had bad experiences consigning to each auction, to see if they have been in lawsuits with consignors, and to see if they have posted apologies to consignors (or buyers) for poor service. You want to find the auction that will get you the most net money for your posters, in a completely hassle-free way. Getting the answers to these questions *BEFORE *you consign will take some extra time and effort on your part, but it may well avoid a massive headache and financial loss on your part later, so it is well worth it.
