The bidders userid is never disclosed on any ebay auctions so I don't think
that is the reason people choose to run "private" auctions.

Subject: [MOPO] EBay private listings? Why?

Why would a seller set up their auction to private (all bidders shown as
'private' including their eBay rating)?
What is the benefit to this?
As a potential bidder it makes me think the seller could be doing some shill
bidding.
Because of this I am very skeptical in getting in a bidding war with a
private ebay auction.
Your thoughts?
