Mopolians, Some friends were at my house on Saturday evening to watch the newly-released Blu-Ray of OKLAHOMA!
The Todd-AO negative was completely remastered for this 4 disc set of the film which includes a Blu-Ray of the 70mm negative, a DVD of the 70mm negative and a Blu-Ray and DVD of the CinemaScope version of the film. The movie was made simultaneously in 70mm Todd-AO and in CinemaScope for non-roadshow release. The result for the 70mm Blu-Ray disc is spectacular, ending a run of less-than-stellar releases of the movie on video. I watched parts of the other discs for comparison, and you would never go there after having watched the 70mm Blu-Ray. I believe a single disc Blu-Ray will be issued or maybe is already available. I was watching on a Panasonic 65 inch ZT plasma, and even though the screen is quite large, the picture was razor sharp.
