advertising is a funny thng...I always liked the quotes of Edison and PT Barnum... ther was a busienss person that never believed in ads... then one day he needed to sell off his equipment and building as he was going out of business... what did he do??? he advertised the going out of business sale..:) then another one I liked was Sell your stuff before the sheriff sells it for you...because many wait and wait and normal operating costs eat up funds.. so hhat even if you get a beter price down the road you have incured overhead and labor and costs that eat up the extra profits.. another thing is Branding or allowing the identity or Brand sink into the consumers mind... it happens by repition, redndant exposure and association...when you go to a store and se product a that is widely known as it built a reputation of Goodwill and quality , the typical knockoff product will emulate Trade dress, style of package, colors and shape of say bottle...In trademark patent law ths create the test for "likelihood of confusion" which can cause the buyer to be confused as to the source of the goods and where the came from...thats why many times lawsuits happen when someone copies the elements of anothers Business..however building brand recognition by advertising is a good thing if it creates GOOD will with Buyers.. if its viewed as a irritant it can backfire and cause repulsive reaction..same as why telemarketers are held in such contempt. the best advertising is also the oldest method... word of mouth where peopel give endorsments or referrals direct to end uses from past experience dealings...it is also imho the bestas when peopel use deceptive tactics hose same actions have a boom a rang effective and are what undoes the intentions of the ad plan... when asked If Press was good to get,,, its said there is no bad press all press is good as long as they spell the name right so they say.. and if you watch most celebrity Buzz most of the largest come from negative Buzz as media and social media feed on the bizarre andincredible and seldom want to do cutsie stories... top news headlien willl be war, loss, adversity topics.. once in a blue moon a peopel interest story...also large criminal topics thats also why so many movie themes are the same like medical tv show, lawyer show, andw ho did it shows... or these new super hero adventures.... its all the same formula regurgatated IMHO.. and so is advertising... a example of a Good advertising for me is Mary sees candy in San francisco... they have such a greatrep because they use qulity ingreiants, and its frankly the best choclates youll probably ever get.... see?? google Mary see you can rder from anywwhere.. and they didnt have to pay me a nickle for the promo... and anyone that knows what im talking abou is probably drooling and placcing a order as i typed this as they knowits the truth.. no gimmick justreat service and good products and they have been in businss like since the 20s== Life is like a box of chocklates buutwith Mary sees you know what your gonna Get and that is a warm fuzzy feelingg for anyone that wants fine chocolates !!!

I don't understand the perpetual beating of a dead horse advertising
campaign.

You don't see Harry Winston slewing ads all over the place. People
know what kind of caliber diamonds they sell and if they have the
money automatically go there. Nobody has to tell them.

I've received 4 emails in the last hour for Bidll.com

We get it; you exist; you're there.
