Absolutely, this is the end of ORIGINAL movie posters. Whereas there will always be REPRINT posters or posters from MONDO, DARK HALL MANSIONS etc., studios will stop producing original movie posters (as it is actually the case with lobby cards). Here in Switzerland, movie theaters get digital poster screens for free from the advertising agencies specialized in movie theatre publicity. Exhibitors get the posters digital, show it on the digital screen and put all let's say 10 seconds a digital advertisement spot for another 10 seconds. The advantage in all this: The Exhibitor gets additional money for publicity and has no more 'paper work' in unpacking and displaying (and destroying!!) original posters.
So hurry up with collecting contemporary movie posters (if you like them) as I'm afraid that in 5 years or so the ORIGINAL one sheet movie poster is history. I'm sure that in the future certain original posters from nowadays will be collected (BIRDMAN green style e.g.).
