Is your website "Mobile Friendly"? I bet you didn't Google know has now begun the process of '/dropping down the ranking/' websites that are no longer mobile friendly.

What is mobile friendly? This from Google:
/
/
/A page is eligible for the “mobile-friendly” label if it meets the following criteria as detected by Googlebot:/

 * /Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash/
 * /Uses text that is readable without zooming/
 * /Sizes content to the screen so users don't have to scroll
   horizontally or zoom/
 * /Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily
   tapped/

The search giant will be changing the way results appear based on websites that are deemed mobile-friendly due to the fact that 60% of traffic now comes from mobile devices. For those late to the news, the change could have negative implications starting tomorrow (April 22nd). Sites without text and formatting unsuited for mobile devices will suffer most. In February, Google announced in a blog post:

/"We will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices./

Now, this doesn't mean if your site is not mobile friendly it won't be found, it just means other websites with whom you compete with for business will be ranked higher and seen sooner. You can ignore this fact with much bravado too: "no one uses the internet to look for a business, people use the yellow pages".

And of course those with mobile friendly movie poster websites thank-you for taking this position...
