I saw one of those "Phantom..." six sheets up close and personal. My poster
guru, the late Chuck Vergara, called me over to his house in Fairfax, CA in the
late 1980s-early 1990s. he had a gorgeous example of the "Phantom of the Opera"
stone litho six sheet laid out on his living room floor to display it for a
prospective buyer. It was stunning and I've always been grateful to Chuck for
letting me see it. The buyer came over and loved the poster but he almost
choked when Chuck quoted him the unheard of price of $2000. He ended up buying
the poster. I don't remember who the buyer was but I think he may have ended up
getting a decent return on his initial investment....
Too bad the poster was completely wasted on the guys in the room. No poster
geeks in THAT bunch!
