I've worked at Universal and have seen this 6sh in person. It is a
STUNNER!
It IS the real deal.
They also displayed it a number of years ago, when they did a
screening of Phantom at the Universal Amphitheater.
Carla Laemmle was in attendance and actually posed for some pics next
to this very same poster that was up on the wall.
It also makes one wonder if this copy is the same one you mention
that your friend sold? Never know. I can't imagine there are many
Phantom 6sh floating around out there. And Universal has quite the
poster archive. If they didnt have a copy up until then, it could
have made the rounds and eventually returned "home." :)

I saw one of those "Phantom..." six sheets up close and personal.
My poster guru, the late Chuck Vergara, called me over to his house
in Fairfax, CA in the late 1980s-early 1990s. he had a gorgeous
example of the "Phantom of the Opera" stone litho six sheet laid
out on his living room floor to display it for a prospective buyer.
It was stunning and I've always been grateful to Chuck for letting
me see it. The buyer came over and loved the poster but he almost
choked when Chuck quoted him the unheard of price of $2000. He
ended up buying the poster. I don't remember who the buyer was but
I think he may have ended up getting a decent return on his initial
investment....
Too bad the poster was completely wasted on the guys in the room.
No poster geeks in THAT bunch!

And you say #oscarssowhite. Look at the room. A bunch of old
white
men and stacey snider. But the poster is awesome. If
it¹s real.
