Does anyone know if 20th Century Fox had ever put out anything other than the
small blue and then pink 8 l/2 x 14 pressbook for The Sound of Music? It seems
to me that much more had to be printed, especially for the larger theaters,
this pressbook is so small, only one publicity story, and 5 pages of ads and
one page of merchandising.
I know at the time the 20th Fox had an"almost" bankruptcy caused them by
Cleopatra and Richard Zanuck had closed most of their lot.So it would seem
right that the pressbooks would be small, but I can't believe they didn't have
anything else to promote the movie that they were banking on saving the studio.
I've never see "large ad" auctioned off or a press kit and believe me I have
been watching for years. Maybe it's so rare because they only sent it to
theaters like the Rialto where it premiered in New York or the Wilshire, but
many cities had very large Todd-AO 70mm roadshow showings, how could this be
the only pressbook?
