I ask this for several reasons. Obviously demand and supply create the value.
But why do we all demand certain posters?
Is it the artwork? The movie? The Artist? Or is It simply because other people
have deemed the poster valuable?
Example:
Why is the movie poster Harvey worth more then 12 Angry Men?
Both posters have somewhat poor artwork (yellow). Both have great actors.
Harvey is a good movie while Angry Men is arguably one of the best. Both are
hard to find and rarely come up. But Harvey goes for 5-10 times more then Angry
Men.
There are many examples of this so what is the reason? I truly believe that we
are somewhat sheep in our hunt for posters. We follow the herd and bid up
posters that have been deemed valuable.
I've heard the old stories of certain collectors who made movie poster books.
They would use posters that they owned a large quantity of to drive up the
demand so they could sell for more (Taxi Driver was an example o heard of). Not
sure if this is true or just a myth.
Any thoughts?
