Hi Jeffrey, Thank you for your input and your kind words!
If it depended on us, the starting prices would be lower, but there are many consignors, who are not willing to sell these for a lower price. I still want to auction them in most cases, especially if they are good. We don't use hidden reserves or anything like that. So we are left with higher reserves in some cases, than we'd optimally like to have, but I think that most of these are really good ones, so it's not something I worry about. Also, many Hungarian posters, artists, poster types are well established on the market, for example: early soviet Tanacskoztarsasag propaganda posters from 1919, Hungarian modernism and Art Deco including Modiano posters, artists like Mihaly Biro or Geza Farago, movie posters from the 60s to the 80s, Pop Art posters or 1950 socialist realist propaganda, etc. I guess there are many collectors and dealers who are mostly interested in posters from their own country or in their own language, while others only care about the quality. Hungarian posters will never be for every collector and dealer, but I hope more and more will discover them. This is somewhat limited though, due to the fact that Hungary is a small country and there were less posters printed here than in other countries with significant poster art traditions. Also, there are some posters in this auction that are mainly interesting for Hungarian collectors, as they possess cultural or historical value that is less relevant for someone who is not from around here. There are more and more Hungarian collectors, who pay high prices for these.
