Hi Tomthe stone litho process was done on bavarian slabs of rock and the matrix was acid etched into the rock..thats why they looked so grainy as its the stone itself you see,,,why none seem to exsist was they resurfaced the stones by grinding the art off and reusing..

I only knew of one printer doing hat method forcircus posters...

the other litho methods are that they used some wood cuts and also metal plates...and rotogravue.. I have a book on the entire printing processes andyou may be able to fing one on ebay or amazon...itwas industrial printing fromthe 40s and is verydeep wthtechnical ways...

they also did hand pulled screen printed posters..so there is quite a few techniques thatwere used,,,the paper stock also changed much inUSA and im sure in the day bills, and belgian and others...the belgian's also had a great pop of colors..I am trying to remember the title of the book,,,strams.or straus ..comes to mind.. great book and explains the stone litho process.. well.hope that helps.

In reqards to Austrailian daybills many dealers refer to them as hand
lithographs. Where as French one panels and many 20th Century Fox
American one sheet posters and posters from other countries are
referred to as stone lithographs.

_As far as the printing process involved how do the methods of
printing these two posters differ?_

_Thank you._
