whenI gave my onlytalk toa group of PHds Ofcinema stuffat the esatman
house inRochester,,, i had received a long fax fromthesonof eprad a
toldedo Makerof cinema gearbefore my talk thenightbefore..
I talked about 3 cinema manufacturers,,Eprad..they made drive in
speakers and the double mutt that rewound 36mm film.and a sound system
like Dolby..
then Kneisley electric who made the lamphouse used to lighte cinema
and Strong electric who made 65%of all lamphouse in the UDSA andalso
the super trooper follow spot..actually in Sinatra's Rider andused
inalmostevery bigarena in the USA....and abroad.,,,,Harry strong died
theyear i was born 1956,,andhe invented the carbon arc feeding system to
control the arc light..
anyways......in the printed program it said Tom martin in show biz since
age 15 ever since...i wasa bit embarrassed as allthe othershad PHDs
after their names,,,,,so,,as i stood there....I y\\tryed toread my notes
i had made to prepare for the talk...the i held uptghelong fax and sai
well i got the dead sea scrolls before i came.....and the entire theater
of people were dead silent quiet like they were watching cornelius from
m Planet of the apes try to talk......needless to say i was notany
good...but a phd guy said that was very entertaining...LOL:)
and I was shaking like Don Knotts asi read my notes...and finally put
them down.....i thought how would i talk to the pioneers in we were in a
garage and talking about gear,,,in overalls like i dress and old
tshirts,grease and the love of projectors...so i calmed down..but the
phds..were not impressed...so with tail between my legs i left....
as i was leaving a security gaurd saw mw e gawking around,..,,,I said
wow this George Eastman did great...
lots of innovation...the gaurd said...yes,,not bad for a guy that quit
school at age 15...it gave me a warmfuzzy feek\lingas
edison,eastman,ford andalltyheinovatorslikeHarrystrongweretheguys liked
totalkto ificould anyways..I did get to talk to Linwood
dunnasc..whoinventedthe machine to super mpose King Kong on film with
willis Obrienthe acmedunn opticalprinter,,,he was a cool scotts man from
Brooklyn New york...
anyways no i don't have a Ghost and mr chicken Banner,,but I remeberyu
cant remove the blood stains on the oRgan with Bonami !!!!!! LOL:)the
stuff we remember........BOnami... :)
