great review Paul!!!
Ilike how cory and reel art sell stuff,,theyareppolite ,cost effective offera wide sellection..same with Jimepisale...unshreded Nostalgia..they pump itout for the novice as wellas sophistcated buyer..tghat what i did inmy retail shop also....as the buyersof niched are farand few,.,,,but the mass market is the common man andhis family...so my marketwas dead center...everyone...likedineyland....as you cnt eatonjust high brow collectors imho.....but at thesame time you cant just sell Gone with thewind all day....

whenI supllied suncoast and media play..theywould say we want stuffthat HOT and trendy...like spencer gifts....Id saywellsome people like eclectice stufflike metropolis...orold cowboy,,or Noir..so i mixed inall genres,,toappeal toallages and demographics...butto just serveone demographic would killany memorabilia dealer......soI dont haveitall but havealmostalldecades ofthe Biz fromthe 1913 on up....gact is most peoplel dontgive a shit!!! LOL so i saved it 42 years andmany want a neww star wars,m,vs mary pickford....LOL:)

well Its been a few years since i was there..But sounds about thesame as its always been,,its likea ham fest,or flea market of movie stuff,,and consider its so hard to move that stuff,so dealers many ofwho are not full time, use ita s a clearing house towholesale tootherdealers,,wjo then canretail to specialized collectors...orthey aucyion on ebay..or inauctionslikeHeritage, Bruceor others

That way you cam cherrypick...as far as organized,,some are some are not..somearehonest ,somearenotas honest,,its allover theplace,,sifting or hunting is what most do and is fun whenyou are a dealer..as well as buying lots ofstuff,, problem is much ofthe stuff has ben sorted.....so anyone withKLkiller, rare stuff knows what they have...likeMorrie...so they auction it...or people Buy Bulk lots unsorted..then retail it andorganize it there is a shift in the age demographics as the old times are now my age andolder...I thought abought bringing a truckful myself,,butat 62 it would be labor intensive,,Books are heavy, postersned to be displayed in Boards and bags,or you get piles of unsorted stuff...projectors are heavy...dsso inm my case..its better to do ebay..or even sell in a garage salebecause thenthe deal hunters whowant to process it,and buy a lot from me its better to wholesale itandlet people witha venue market it,,,Itsloads ofwork....labor,gas,lodging..andi betmost are getting tired I amjust thinking of it..andfact isthe common stuff is so abundant onebay forless then 10 bux...millions oftitle...withmail the issue is customersevice shipping costand packing....so Bruce has a great filter tosell the best .thenbulk out the lots andlet nubie dealers sell on ebay rflea markerts...as people infestivals stillliketo find Posters at markets or festivals..

I am seeing a trend where younger people want specific limited stuff,,,andfinallypeople arehappy witha video poster or reproduction ..common folk don't need a original or specific niche likeyou with Kubick...you area 1 ofa kind buyer so,,only a fullserve poster shop in UKL, nyc orLa will even everhavewht you are looking for...mostjust dont offer that great of selection......i see allyour concerns as valid...but the fun of tho se shows was the fellowship with dealers adn collectors,,,andgettingthe stuff was mostly dealers making contact,,and doing Bulk deals or networking...its justmanyare dyingoffandi thinkthe market is dwindlingas most young people dontliketo Horde stuff like baby boomers did...its a socialtrnd...theyare tooaddd/hd and prefer social media..I am now getting away from then social media as that too has ben a big waste of energy and im going to be 63 this year so im winding down also...iimglad you wentiknow they haveone inLa however thecineven was always the same as you saw....Ilikedthe huny muyself wheni was in my 20-30 even40s...hope you found a goodie! paul have a good sunday folks.....i just heardthey are re-releasing saving private Ryan..I have the video poster ifanyone needs one

Hi Zeev, have some time so I thought I'd write a quick review from a
first timer.

I had to go out to Ohio for work so decided to take the plunge and my
time out there coincide with the festivities in Columbus. It was my
first time at Cinevent and I picked up one bigger ticket item on 2001:
A Space Odyssey and a few stills I needed on Lolita and Paths of
Glory. I consider it a success for what I picked up but not sure if I
would go back as I fear I may have exhausted the majority of vendors
with my limited scope of what I was looking for and collect which is
Stanley Kubrick memorabilia.

First, the good, the event staff and setup was excellent, very easy to
navigate, find, and know where everything is at, kudos to those
involved. I was only there for Thursday-Sat morning so I didn't get a
chance to see the Saturday auction but I did have a chance to talk
with Morris who was very knowledgeable and personable. Even had a
chance to meet the infamous Bruce Hershenson so that was a bonus! I
also got a chance to meet quite a few people from here that I've seen
on email chains so that was great as well. I was probably one of the
youngest there for sure and I know a lot of deals did go down although
I did notice it was a lot of vendors buying from other vendors more
than collectors buying from the vendors. I'm hoping this is not a
trend that will die out once the older generation moves on as I really
hope more collectors my age and younger join the hobby.

As for the vendor floor itself I will give my honest opinion so
hopefully It doesn't offend anyone here that was selling there. For
those that haven't gone it was an interesting mix of people selling
film memorabilia (posters, stills, lobby cards, etc), people selling
DVD of old movies, and a few people selling film projection
equipment/reels. I would definitely say the prominent majority of
memorabilia sellers were selling Lobby Cards and Stills but were
probably about even with those selling DVD's. Although I exhausted as
much as I could in the short time I was there I was a little
disappointed in the lack or organization at most of the tables. There
were a few that were great that had a list of everything in the albums
on the table, a few had everything in folders by genre or alphabetized
by actor or film and some that had everything nicely sorted in
binders, however, the vast majority were just boxes and large of
stacks of unsorted lobbies/stills from decades of movies. Some tables
I sifted through, others I didn't even bother, it was just too much.
As a specialized collector who just collects Stanley Kubrick materials
it would not have been worth my time to spend 12 hours a day looking
through dozens of two foot tall stacks of stills to try and find
something Kubrick related only to find nothing. Some of the buyer were
knowledgeable on what they had, others just shrugged their shoulders
and said have at it. Some said they didn't have anything on Kubrick
yet I found a few in their stacks during a quick flip through which
worried me in that the vendors didn't really know what they had.
Overall the vendor side was kind of a mess to be honest. I totally get
not everyone has the time to be organized but I had always thought the
event would have brought the cream of the crop of vendors who knew
exactly what they had but it reminded me more of a small specialized
flea market for people to just spend all their time sifting through
things in hopes of finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. Again,
no offense to anyone as I totally understand that some of you have
tens of thousands of stills and lobby cards and it would take a
herculean effort to organize everything but I also know that if other
collectors are like me (who may not be as specialized), we probably
would have bought more if we were able to more easily find our topics
of interest.

Also, I did notice a bit of a large pricing discrepancy between each
vendor, even for things I didn't collect. I saw a still at one booth
for $10 and that exact same still at another vendor for $75, same with
the lobby cards, some had them for $3 and others had the same one for
$50. Advice for collectors, I would definitely recommend doing your
due diligence with the different vendors before jumping into a
purchase.

For the average collector, I think this is a great event as there
really was some great pieces there, however if your more specialized
in what you collect, it might be difficult to find an abundance of new
things due to the time it would take to look for what you want and
find that proverbial needle in a haystack. I hope to reach out to a
lot of the people I met there to see if there is anything they might
have in their inventory that was not on display/available at the
convention so even though I was a little disappointed, I was happy
with what I was able to find and hope to find more after the event.

Sincerely,

Paul

SUBJECT: [MOPO] {MOPO} CINEVENT REVIEW ANYONE

I'm surprised nobody has reported any impressions from Cinevent, and
even more surprised that no one has even asked.

I would be really interested in reading a short review of the show and
Morrie's auction.
