great Post Paul and morrie!
made me think why i sold memorabilia..
I started as a musician...tryingtoo ge a record deal..in 1976...I was
Mel Blanc who said well you may not geta dealbut youwill find a
niche..justhang inthere...
so in1977 as i had a booking agency andhad descorated myofficvein Movie
memorabilia, a friend broughtin a 1920s photoplaymovie magazimne////he
said youloveallthis Hollywood stuff..ibet you could sll it.
so i started ads in Film colectors world.Bigg reel.classic mages..doing
mail order...
I was theoldtimes of the filmcollectors that gave methelittle deducation
I haveover 42 years..the kindness andsharing theyoffered me nec they
could see i wanted to know..andhad the samelove just didnt know the
history ofit..
I used towatch the MGM 19790auction Film doc Hollywood the
dreamFactory..inmyoffice..and bein wonder,,thats how ilearned itws
Debbie Reynolds who saved stuffwhenitwas considered JUnk.,..
so thegeeky collectosr who didntthinkthestuffwas worth Much but loved it
weremy teachers....many gotit free!!! I have heard storys that would
blow your mind..
but the collectors would call me and educate meonthe
eras.actors..production,studio history...forall the depts ofthe
BIz....so the friendships as i soldto book authors like Herb Bridges,
James Parrish..masny who would educate me..I used tothinkill never
remeber this!!!
Kubrick was also Speilbergs fave andi sold most myKubrick to Adrian
Cowdry fromtheUK when he cametoCinevent a few years back,,,Barry
lyndon..andothers inserts as likeyou he wanted specifics..likeJames
boond...but thepartI rembermostwas his kindness.. big guy thatlooked
likea viking..he loved movies...
whenMorrie stopped by myshop...I was intebackyard cleaning 16mmmovie
film with Filmrenew a stnky film cleaner,,, so i met Morrie one time..he
boughta originalstamped 11x14 Mae Wesrt still..as he is a collectors
collector,,intotherare stuff...i had a few rare thingsover theyears
andsold it to collectors allover the world...evenhad a benHur suit of
anor,,screen worn,,,, sold it,, butwitheach sale i gotaa education...
and made a friend...andmany times a new teacher
see we ar just stewards ofthestuuff,,,we never really own anything...we
are gaudians..our Jobisto share,,educate ,keep the memorys alive..if we
canpay the bills, andeat thats a extra,,,butmost
becomeobsessed...likeyouand morie..andas farsas bigmoney most dontcare
that much,,a few see itas commoditys..andi feelsory forthemn
itslikethescene inRaidersofthelost ark...it ends up ina box ,hidden
fromkids.andpeopleand nevershared,,,,
but theones who keep the actors alive,,directors,,andmovie
history...aretheones thatfreely share.....Bruce ,mlearnaboutposters Sue
and ed..are the stewards ofthe biz..theyoffer sadvice and havedata...as
wellas the dealers,,like Sarowitz,postteropolis,,Jerry ohlinger rip,,sam
rubin..and all of mopo!!! these are the stewards,,,of memorabilia,,,Paul
gerliki is saving lost films..as wellas Library of congrres and
arhivists all over...so people have done a great joob ...an cinevent was
theperfect placeto nework,,Rich halagua,,morrie,,and other s all know
it,,its just time to pass the torch,,to new stewards...as many are
passing away so i suggest find new young peopleto do that
regardless what you save,,its allpart ofthe heritageofthe Hollywood
history...withdigital many are saving greatimages,,,and details..toshare
with many....
thatsthe bestpart ofitall for meisto share and learmnn ,,themoney
justfuels theprojects....butwheni canget a peivceto someone who
genuinlyloves the movies..thats the biggestpayoff as i remeber how good
it felttodiscoverit,,ina lot or ina find myself...likemy find ofdrivin
Tickests...myex wife said why areyou svaingallthose damn tickets>????i
said bec its true history ofa tme...we all need to remeberand share wit
others,,thast why i give away the tickets free
withallmyorders,.,,likeplanting seeds ofpositive and movie history...as
its gettinglost so quckly..do to digital and streaming,,
same withBooks..people dont do as many books as we did inpast,,,,because

Great to hear Morris! I’m probably a lesser minority of Cinevent’s
target audience simply because my interests are so focused (Kubrick).
His films cover such a tiny part of the history of film as opposed to
the thousands of titles that the majority of Cinevent participants
deal in so I hope everyone took my review of the event with a grain of
salt.
I’ve actually recommended to several of my film industry friends
(that collect memorabilia) that they should attend the event because
as you mention there is no greater convention for this hobby! For
those not as specialized as me (and for those that are) there is
definitely something there for everyone.
I was mentioning to another member that while going through a pile of
stills at the event I was talking with one collector who just collects
pinup style stills of female actors, he was having a field day pulling
out hundreds of stills. Everyone collects something different which is
why the event is great for more generalized collectors. BUT even as
specialized as I am I still picked up some great pieces so I was very
happy with the event! I also got to put a lot of faces to names from
here that I probably never would have had the opportunity to do so
which meant a lot.
I’m looking forward to next year’s auction already, even if there
is nothing in it for me I love seeing some of the great pieces in it!
All the best.
Sincerely,
Paul W. Hazen

I guess I'll give my own review. We are not the big boys and three of
us work on this all year long We only did $100,000 which is low for
all of the work. I get pulled either way. People like inexpensive $100
reserve lots but it's not cost effective. Look for Major changes next
year.
I am committed to preserving the Cinevent weekend as the best and last
remaining good movie memorabilia with all of it's difficulties. Paul's
comments were correct but where will you find something better plus
the camaraderie which is part of the fun?
Next year we will drop our 800 lot auction to less than 200 lots.
Lots will be of a higher quality across the board.
It will continue to be a mixture of stills, lobby cards and posters
I will bring 40,000 stills filed by title and or star for sale.
Collector's prices.
I will consider requests but people are visiting our store EVERY week.
There will be 11x14" stills in next years auction.
Taking Quality $500 and up consignments NOW. I already have 42.
Whether you buy from my auction or not please support Cinevent.
Thank You Morrie
