I'm using DHL Express for both my US imports and exports all the time. I do not recommend shipping a tube during the holiday mail craze. If it rolls off the collie, nobody has time to pick them up, so it will take a long time until it gets delivered. This only happened to me once and it was years ago. Other than that, I never had any problems with them.
As to insurance: Unlike UPS and Fedex, DHL Express Germany does insure collectibles up to €25.000. I would recommend call an operator to make sure that applies to their US branch as well. Or to carefully read their ToS. UPS is very clear about this: Their ToS state that they do not insure collectibles, and also that they are under no obligation to tell you this. I'm not kidding you. So they will happily take your insurance money, but they will never pay. I just had UPS damage a rolled poster I sent to Canada. It was shipped in a tube, wrapped in corrugated paper and put in a strong box, so they had to use MASSIVE force to damage it, but they managed. The outer box got torn and they taped it up with brown tape to hide the damage. I shipped UPS on the client's request, will not repeat that mistake. I am using UPS to the UK, though. Never had a problem on that route.
