I had a meeting with a man and 74 yesterday and we talked about memories
of our lives he was a former Navy man from the Vietnam era he traveled
around the world too many countries all over Europe when he got out of
school join the service and he learned to be an electrician in
industrial electricity
He worked in an industrial ice cream factory called vroman foods
He knows all kinds of things about history from ancient times on he also
worked at the Wonder Bread factory and had numerous jobs over the years
hearing his stories was fascinating to me because he's also an avid
woodworker and he was very much into Seiling worked as a rigger on
several shops the old-school kind with masts and sailboats
He's restoring a vintage old sailboat right now and he's 74 he said very
many health issues where he cannot even eat food because he had cancer
he's just for life is unbelievabl
we started talking about the meaning of life and he said well I am in
agnostic and when I said I saw you you don't believe in Christ he said
let me just say that it could go either way I don't I'm not saying I
don't believe and I'm not saying I do believe he said he was actually
told twice he said heart stents and all kinds of trauma as well as his
girlfriend who has been very ill over the years but they've stood by
each other and help each other while they were recuperating in
wheelchairs and you name
He said I just wanted to stop by and talk to you because I can imagine
you're lonely and the stuff you've been going through and I told him my
testimony of why I feel that there must be something after this it just
seems so odd we would just go poof and be gone I said I've been selling
memorabilia of dead actors for 46 years and all the celebrities have
talk to you seem to think that there was more than just a test to show
us what unconditional love was all about and memories this man along
with the Canadian called me on the phone the other night I've noticed
the people that get over the age of 70 have a lot of memories and they
look back on the movies has been checking points for their lives just as
I have that's why we like to save that's why we like to save memories
some like to save it for the profit potential I'm selling it many of us
are like Arc Iris where we like to preserve history and the funny thing
about dealers is there basically archivist on steroid
Yeah in a certain point we can get this movie and frustrated as we look
at stacks of old memorabilia and most of it we might not have seen in 10
or 20 years time goes by very fast I even noticed that people in the
industry who reminisce about your business of entertainment have the
same thing they have photos and memories of what they did who they met
who influenced him and yet we can't take it with us as king titan learn
and as far as even the memories if we develop dementia or Alzheimer's we
forget the other day I was trying to think of Franklin Pangborn as we
used to joke about it and also about Zazu Pitts I realized many people
don't even remember those actors I found out when I googled pets was in
it's a Mad Mad Mad world one of my favorite movies yeah I was never one
of those guys that can remember all the people what they did because I
was not a specialist in one genre or another the man visited me said he
bought a toy robot from my store of Robbie the robot years ago and I
realized I never saw forbidden planet I was confused wife day the Earth
stood still who I believe was Robert Wize film
I always was fascinated by people that knew the stock number of the 45
RPM record and when it was me I just never focused on that play music
instead of being focused on the liner notes for a little inside fax
however I learned a lot of the stuff from people in the business like
authors or musicians for screenwriters when I was in New York City I saw
the play speed the plow with Madonna and Gregory Peck was there along
with Matthew Dillon an who stood right next to me
$10 standing room only tickets and so I asked this guy how was the play?
He said it's pretty good I think you might like it and I noticed that
the other people waiting started talking amongst themselves I said who
was that guy? They said that David Mamet he wrote the play obviously I
had no idea who he was
What's the play was good and we were staying next-door at the Milford
plaza in New York City
So the thing is everybody's got a story and when you hear peoples
backgrounds it's fascinating like when I hear Bruce talk about his Vegas
years or all of mopo as everyone has a fantastic story that exceeds any
movie...
So that's why I tell people my gut feeling is that white price told us
it's true because I can't believe we just vaporized when we die never to
be seen again or heard from again with the recent artificial
intelligence the man told me he's very concerned because I guess they
reached with computers the ability to out play chess players and there's
some thing in China called go or something like that that the computers
are talking to each other and nobody knows what the plan is of the
computers if it's to destroy mankind which Bradley the guy that had the
forbidden planet robot robot sun was basically the promise of forbidden
planet
I told the man I'm kind of glad that I have been so out of touch with so
much history but that I believe God has GPS and sees everything that's
going on and can int
and stop all this craziness that we've experienced in the last few
years with politics business science medicine movie memorabilia media
and the news
Meanwhile take care of your family and friends and love each other and
your pets with unconditional love
And praying that mankind and teaches the children do you have empathy
and love for each other in the future
