Rumor hell; having to do this kind of crap DID kill Elvis. He wanted to be...and could have been... something like the next Marlon Brando. That rotten Colonel Parker kept Elvis in hell.
By the way, when I interviewed Dolores Fuller, Ed Wood's girlfriend, she told me about writing songs for Elvis's movies. "I wrote "Do the Clam"", she said. Still not sure if she was bragging or confessing.
By the way, I felt the same way about "Chicago". Unwatchable. My wife and I tried twice.

PS-I took a date to see "Night of the Living Dead" & "2,000 Maniacs". 'Nuff said.

The MOST disturbing movie I ever saw was HAREM SCARUM.  I kept twisting in my seat, longing to get out of the theater, and believe me, there was nowhere to go when I got out of the theater.  The film was so excruciatingly monotonous that I was HORRIFIED.  Plus the songs that poor Elvis was REQUIRED to sing were beyond bad.  I could have written better songs myself, and I have never written even one song.  But I'm sure I could have.  Plus I was on a BLIND date, and I was in a deep state of REGRET.

THE SHINING has nothing on this film.  It is rumored to have killed EP.

Without a doubt the most disturbing "classic" film I ever watched was "The Wicker Man". I went to see it with my first wife and, to this day, I can't tell you why it affected me so strongly. I was actually fascinated by the idea of paganism; what is more natural than the veneration of nature, something we are all a part of? But the otherness of the policeman from the mainland  kept everything off balance. I started to feel a palpable sense of dread about halfway through the story and the ending just plain bitch-slapped me upside the head. I wasn't ready for it, I didn't see it coming, and I walked out of the theater sweating profusely. Great movie.
We'll talk about seeing "Deliverance" in the very front row of a theater whose AC had broken down during a heat wave some other time.

I just had to check a print of "A LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT."  It seemed to drag on forever.  I like good character studies, but this seemed to never end.  The only good thing is that it was a shorter version, the bad part is the collection has 2 more prints.  If I ever hear a fog horn I will go into a deep depression.
