And don't forget Steven bought the rosebud sled at auction years ago I
remember when Orson was down on his luck and was staying with Angie
Dickinson because he was so down and out they should've taken care of
him then poor guy suffered greatly but then Orson is in heaven and is
fine and I believe we will see many of these phone stars when it is our
time to graduate from this life can I ask her I had I'm not even sure
who it belong to but I suspected it might've been from somebody notable
as it was a pre-50s Oscar® I sold it back to the Academy and Katie
Holmes dad was my attorney when the Academy sent the box to retrieve it
it fit like a glove the attorney said contested that it might not be an
actual Oscar or that it was stolen I never heard back from them but I
received a contract from the president of the Academy stating that we
would not show each other it's called a hold harmless and they paid me a
small stipend for the Oscar award yes my son said dad they are just
trying to protect her trademark because he knew I had problems
protecting my trademark my friend Ira also said it might not seem like
it matters now but it will matter in the big picture down the road you
do the right thing I was offered $20,000 cash if I met somebody in an
alley open Detroit it just didn't feel right and I wanted to do the
right thing and set a good example for my son years later he said I'm
not too sure you did the right thing because the entertainment industry
is very corrupt and he knew I could've used the money because I was
recently divorced and needed cash flow
I don't regret giving it up as people saw it on display in my store and
I could see in their face but they wanted to smash and grab it was like
having something magical the way people would look at it with amazement
I had to take it out of the showcase become a liability
It was a big education on why material things are not always healthy to
be saving and archiving especially if they're considered very valuable
you have to have security and redundant protection for the items and one
can become obsessive over owning material things the memories are what's
important if you've had the blessing to meet somebody in the business
and actually talk to them and shake their hand I've noticed a lot of
people that would get autographs we're not even make eye contact with
the movie star because all they were focused on was getting a souvenir
instead of reciprocating a form of friendship with the celebrity the day
enjoyed meeting
I was lucky to actually talk and meet some of my favorites and share
friendship that to me is priceless
