My experience is that any attempt to find new buyers through marketing is completely pointless. The ad campaigns I ran (including Google Adwords) were always a waste of money. Even the press coverage I got for the shop hardly showed any immediate response.

I think movie poster marketing only works the other way round: People who are already actively looking for movie posters must be able to find you on Google and/or Social Media. Once they have made a first purchase, the challenge is to keep your portfolio interesting enough to have them come back and eventually turn them into clients.

Pete, when I had my gallery here in Vegas, I had an employee spend a full week creating a database of every interior designer in Vegas.
We sent out a promo to every one of them, and got 3 people to walk in the door.

one bought a $40 poster, for his son. I did however get a number of calls and they all asked about repro posters

I thought it was completely insane

Scott I have wondered for many years why interior designers haven't glommed onto movie posters. It seems so obvious and it would help the hobby as well.

Rich,

You must never watch HGTV. 😉

Home remodelers/designers cite using 1st Dibs to find high-end one-of-a-kind items. It’s considered a design marketplace. I didn’t realize vintage posters were also sold there until I checked it out today.  Here’s a link to what’s up for sale:
