Robert Tanenbaum Book Signing/Q and A
In Robert Tanenbaum's 60+ year career in the arts industry, he never could have
imagined the scope of his work and how recognizable it would be years down the
road. Tanenbaum moved to LA in 1964 to pursue paintings for advertising and
also with the hopes to create movie posters for some of the biggest studios
that ever existed. It wasn't until he moved to a new house a decade ago and was
cataloguing his old slides from the late 60's to the 90's that he realized he
had worked on over 250 movies. The art that Tanenbaum created for these movies
are as memorable as the films themselves, including but not limited to: "Cujo,"
"A Christmas Story," "Battlestar Galactica," "The Color of Money," and
"Superfly."
Because of his ingenious ability to work in such a range of artistic styles,
Tanenbaum was able to create posters for a plethora of genres, narratives, and
studios. The most reoccuring commentary he received at signings was, "I had no
idea you did that," leaving movie posters fans in awe of his diversity of
talent.
Robert Tanenbaum crossed paths with talented book designer Dennis Prince and
they were equally inspired to create a portfolio that would showcase the
variety of paintings that were commissioned, but for the first time, to be
recognized collectively as his own.
Meet and greet with valley resident, and legendary movie poster artist Robert
Tanenbaum.
