I read with interest Ritchie's observations about three auction houses and
their results for the consignor. I have purchased from and consigned to all
three with mixed results. Our Last Moving Picture Co. auction, now in it's
33rd year, limps along with a low of $32,000 and a high of $420,000 and a
gross of more than $8,000,000 over the years. We have a much lower mailing
list which is sadly out of date but each October we will have yet another
auction of 800 lots of posters and stills and most of the collecting world
hears about it. premierauctiongalleries.com
Because we have the largest stock of movie and television stills
(1,500,000) and movie
lobby cards (200,000) in North America for sale at our store customers
drive or fly to visit and buy. From some of these buyers we also get
consignments.
Because there are only three of us working part and full time we are
somewhat limited.
We have 6500 items on E-Bay in our store or live(Lastmo). I turned 84
today and plan to work for 15 more years because I love it..
If anyone wants to surprise me and offer me some quality consignments I
welcome it. We charge 20% consignor fees.
Hope to see all of you in Columbus at the Columbus Moving Picture Shoe
(formerly Cinevent) on Memorial Day weekend. It is extremely important that
we support this convention, the largest and best in the United States. For
many this is the best and only place for them to sell their collections and
stock.
Regards Morrie
