Greetings All MoPo-ers,
This is ed from LAMP and Movie Poster Archives. We've been quiet for quite a
while now, mainly from being OVERWHELMED the last few years. Besides the duties
with LAMP, we've battled with a mountain of over 3 MILLION pieces donated to
MPA.

Well, as we slowly begin to organize this monster, things are changing. We have
several MAJOR announcements that should touch a large portion of the hobby. We
wanted to let members of MoPo know about it.

FIRST, we're going to the Columbus Moving Picture Show this year (May 22-25)
and will have a table for both LAMP and MPA. If you're going, come by and see
us.

So, let me address the LAMP announcements first.

LAMP ANNOUNCEMENTS -

  * LAMP is updating and moving to training videos! We will be presenting a
variety of training videos such as Introduction to Movie Poster Collecting; The
22 Types of U.S. One Sheets; etc. and then move to regular articles such as
sizes and conditions. Advance articles will be for LAMP Members and the
regular videos will be for the public.
  * When we went to Cinevent in 2008, we walked around to dealers asking what
area needed the most research to help the hobby. We had an overwhelming
response to tackle Production Codes. Now our Movie Stills DataBase has over
85,000 production codes (and still growing) to help identify unknown movie
stills, props and costumes................ AND NOW..
  * Saturday 10 A.M. May 24th - At the Columbus Movie Picture Show, LAMP will
present the first ever training seminar on Movie Stills: Production Codes and
How to Utilize Them. This seminar is for all levels from stills collectors up
to institution and museum archivists. If you handle unknown stills - YOU NEED
TO BE THERE.
  * At the LAMP table, we will have our Production Code Databas set up to
help identify unknown movie stills. So if YOU have any unknown movie stills -
BRING THEM! (up to about 25 items) and we will help you identify them.
  *
MOVIE POSTER ARCHIVES (MPA) ANNOUNCEMENTS

  *   Friday, 9 A.M. May 23rd - as the hobby's first and only non-profit  -
This seminar is entitled "From Collections to Contributions: Ensuring Your
Legacy with Tax-Smart Donations" with a Q&A
  * Benefits of the MPA Charity Auction - presenting the benefits and
differences with standard auctions and how to take advantage of the difference.
  * Looking for associates - MPA will be walking around looking for
associates. MPA has associated with Historic Images who buys special
collections and Sox Photos who specializes in movie slides and presents 150 to
200 different MPA excess movie and celebrity slides EACH WEEK. Click

  * MPA currently has almost 15,000 titles in file cabinets ranging from one
item to literally HUNDREDS of pieces PER TITLE. AND MPA is currently in the
process of designing the first digital repository with over 50,000 hi-res
images already acquired.
  * Besides building the first repository, MPA has also been working to
create specially designed institution and museum programs to expand
preservation and bridge the gap between collectors and archives.
  *
AND FINALLY - We are modifying our Charity Auctions. We have an auction
starting TODAY - Monday Mar. 24th and we will be testing areas such as lobby
card lots.

Last year we received a major collection of over 50,000 pieces from
Consolidated Poster Service from the 1930s to 1950s with LOTS of originals and
LOTS of duplication. As we sort through the files, we are putting some of the
excess in our auctions offering FANTASTIC vintage material for the same regular
lot price.

The auction features 314 lots
