Debi,
my original post already contains my two answers to your question. Any other ideas? Anyone?
For the record, the German double-panel which is much rarer than the Onesheet, very nice and unique, passed with an opening bid of merely $750.

For other formerly great titles (SUNSET BOULEVARD Onesheet) the prices are still free-falling, showing that the collectors market has been saturated and there is not too much interest with current decorators.
How is this even possible that this poster sold for so little?

No use. For this type it is extremely important to buy from a major corporation, they want nothing to do with an Alan or Helmut they have never heard of. Also, we're probably 'not safe'.Gesendet: Samstag, 29. Lots of serious results, many great prices on outstanding posters for totally obscure movies and a few overpriced classics (TAXI DRIVER, KILL BILL advance and a few others are on my website for a fraction of the Heritage results). For other formerly great titles (SUNSET BOULEVARD Onesheet) the prices are still free-falling, showing that the collectors market has been saturated and there is not too much interest with current decorators.I have the impression that both Dwight and Heritage reached a number of decorators with this auction, and it positively showed in the price results. It somewhat reminded me of Tony Nourmand's London auctions of the 1990s and early 2000s, where a guy sitting in in front of me paid $5000 or something for a TAXI DRIVER Onesheet he could've bought from me for $250. Nothing wrong with that, I'm just saying...Our market is changing dramatically, with older collectors either retiring, selling out, or, let's face it, simply dying. What this auction showed is that there is still a strong demand for great graphics and that there are new buyers as well.Again, I strongly believe that many of the posters went to decorators. I have no clue if anybody still collects George Bancroft, and I somewhat doubt it. On the other hand, if you made another million dollars on the stock market last night, a 1929 title card for THE WOLF OF WALL STREET for a lousy $20+ might be exactly what you want to see on the wall opposite your bathroom throne. And in my book, that is the way it should be. Movie posters were made for display, and if this auction is any guideline, there is still hope for the rest of us as well. My honest congratulations to both Dwight and Heritage for a job very well done.Helmut
