While there is no requirement that an auction house which will be offering
multiple copies of the same poster over a prolonged period should tell
that to prospective bidders, would it not be ethically correct for them to
do so? Heritage has been listing a 'James Bond Drives an Aston' numbered
limited edition re-release for the past year, and so far has sold 24
copies. Prices realised range from $150 to the most recent, $39. All are
described as near mint condition.
There is also a British eBay seller, thebritishmoviearchive, who started
selling posters from the archive of Studio Canal, stating that 'We will be
listing many posters, lobby cards and press books for hundreds of films
over the next few months so please keep an eye out. When they are gone.
they are gone' That 'few months' is now 5 years and seemingly no end in
sight, again listing the same posters multiple times over those years.
Surely the practice is just a little unscrupulous.
