Also, to show the dynamism of renga as follows:
I mentioned earlier how haiku is taken from the
word haikai and hokku. I also said how haikai means
'playful' or 'sportive'. I found this other meaning
in wiktionary as follows:
Japanese
Noun
haikai
: a form of comic connected verse in Japanese. Gave
birth to haiku.
: to wander around
Of course, I picked up on the second definition
above, and this is how I see the woods, seasons, these
leaves falling, and hey, why not a walk in the woods,
a canoeing across the lake, a drive on a motorcycle or
sailboat. All paths may lead back home eventually,
but to wander around is the changing, dynamic aspect
of what's happening. To give definition and notice
static patterns is to understand or imply expectations
of the wander. Thus, renga is haikai, and thus
wanders and is playful. Non-linear, as renga is, is
an event that doesn't readily keep a certain storyline
in place, renga is the defining of fleeting, short
moments influenced by the differing perspectives of
the participants.
My head is turned left and as I turn to the right
changes occur as I wander around this evening.
Trees with grapevine,
Cold railroad tracks,
Gravel piled in wait.
Playful, sudden wander this seasonal north is,
SA
P.S. I appreciate those that participated in the
renga. Anybody else that wishes to join, please feel
free to see where this dynamic ride might take us.
Enjoy! (The renga is located on the thread [MD]
poetry)
