First to DM:.
If the MOQ holds true we live in a Dynamic/Static balanced
universe. The dynamic is as you correctly say an extremely
uncomfortable "place to be". Nor can it last (selfevidently so)
Then to DMB:
Once upon a time the biological level were "leading edge" and people
(with emotions) weren't far from its first patterns, thus it was not
courage that made it evolve to the point of spawning the social level.
After that, one may ask: Was it courage that made the old Greek
philosophers leave the social-mythological level for the intellectual-
rational one? At least not the courage displayed by the Homeric
heroes.
However, the MOQ postulate that each level integrates the former's
values for own purpose, so - using MOQ's level template on ZAMM -
one may say that the Aretê (that the Homeric heroes displayed and
what it identified as Quality) were social value brought under
intellectual control (digital ZAMM p.355):
But why? Phædrus wondered. Why destroy areté? And no
sooner had he asked the question than the answer came
to him. Plato hadn't tried to destroy areté. He had
encapsulated it; made a permanent, fixed Idea out of it;
had converted it to a rigid, immobile Immortal Truth. He
made areté the Good, the highest form, the highest Idea
of all. It was subordinate only to Truth itself, in a synthesis
of all that had gone before.
In other words, the SOCIAL emotional values of courage, pride, duty,
celebrity ...etc. were adopted by INTELLECTUAL value, but now for its
own purposes That it required courage to break with the heroic past,
that "willingness to die" was merely cowardice re. refusing the social
"call of duty", that you became a celebrity by solving a mathematical
theorem ...etc. ad infinity
Check out Pirsig's books for a change.

PS for DMB
Please check the "rich text" or whatever button you have to quit the
HTML mode. You posts' lines often goes out to the right beyond the
page format. This goes for Krim and Matt (Kundert) too, but he seems
to have left the MD.
