Try changing the default encoding of the mail program. Email that is sent
is encoded in a specific format, the receiving client (including web based
mail) should also support that format or else the message will come out
garbled.

If you are using the new Yahoo mail open the message and select "More
Actions" from the toolbar above the message and select a different encoding
from the 'Set Encoding" menu. I think the popular encoding these days for
english language mail is UTF-8. Or try the Auto detect option.

For hotmail, sorry no joy. The problem is definitely the encoding (at least
it has all the symptoms) so all you need to do is figure out how to set it
right. But how to go about it eludes me. The road to causality in Hotmail
is a frustrating mess! (and a minor contribution to the myth of the
qualityless-ness of MS products*).

Possible directions:
- Check the encoding in your browser.
- If you are using Internet Explorer try using Firefox (
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/) and see if the same problem occurs
still.

If it does then you know the problem is either with the hotmail service
itself or internet explorer. Whip out your problem-solution hypothesis
notebook and get down to it. :-)

*This is an entire post in itself and as usual I've run out of time to get
into it just now. Later. Later. Later.
