Hi Marsha,

That definition says an atheist is one who believes that there is no God which
kind of begs the question. It suggests that there is a God which can be
believed in or not. Other dictionaries on dictionary.com say an atheist is one
who does not believe in God or gods or is one who disbeleives in God or gods.

It seems better to say that you don't believe in God than to say that you
believe that there is no God. Now you are making a claim that must be backed up
rationally rather than putting the responsibility to back up the claim on ones
who claim that here is a God.

It's a subtle difference but maybe an important one. I don't feel like I'm
making a claim that there is no God because I wouldn't even know what I meant
when I said it. As Akshay has been saying, denying the existence of God is to
have a definition of God in mind and my definition may be much different than
someone else's.

Regards,
Steve
