I was in Bozeman Montana again recently. My wife's ancestors settled there in
the 19th century and we were there to attend a family reunion. One of the
events was hosted by some relatives who still live in the area, up Bridger
Canyon. If memory serves, this is near to where Gennie DeWeese lived. So I
asked the host if they happen to know the DeWeese family. Turns out they did
and he gave me a current copy of Bozeman's art and entertainment weekly, sort
of their version of the Village Voice, which had a big picture of Gennie on the
Cover. (June 20-26 issue of "THIS WEEK".) They put over 200 of her paintings on
display in her first retrospective show and so she was the star of the feature
article. Reunion events kept me away from the show, but it was very cool to see
that she's being celebrated in her home town.

The writer quotes Gennie's daughter Tina saying, "We grew up in an enviroment
of some of Bozeman's first bohemians". Gennie's son (Josh) jokingly added,
"Bozeman's only bohemians". The writer says Gennie used to sit on her exercise
bike and smoke. Apparently, that was her idea of funny. Ha! Mine too.

I went over to the campus where Pirsig used to teach English just to see what
it looked like. My buddy and I happened to catch a rehearsal of some
Shakespheare in the Park kind of thing. All this gives me lots of reasons to
love the place. In summertime, anyway.
