I think how tommy fits into it all is his association with Albertus
Magnus
Albertus' activity, was more philosophical than theological
Thomas is said to have spoken on the morning of December 6, 1273, his
last words: "Such secrets have been revealed to me that all I have
written now appears of little value."

which leads one to believe that perhaps he came to an MoQ like
realization
as per meaning of the philosophers stone suggests.
