Bo Quotes Pirsig:

*) LILA:
This problem of trying to describe value in terms of substance
has been the problem of a smaller container trying to contain a
larger one.  Value is not a subspecies of substance.
Substance is a subspecies of value. When you reverse the
containment process and define substance in terms of value
the mystery disappears: substance is a "stable pattern of
inorganic values."  The problem then disappears.  The world of
objects and the world of values is unified.

Ron:

Bo, what I think you are doing is still describing value as substance
by saying that DQ/SQ is reality. Consequently you are still dealing
with "the problem of a smaller container trying to contain a
larger one" thus a symptom of this is the requirement of a 5th
level. Per that Quote above a 5th level is not neccessary .
Value is indefineable.

what Pirsig SHOULD have said is that substance are entites
and entites are an intellectual pattern ABOUT inorganic patterns of value.

See how it turns in on itself? one must be careful when flipping from
one paradigm to the other using one to decribe the other using
self referental statements.  It is very easy in that statement
to derrive a concept of meta-objectivism.
