I can only speak as a continent-bound American, but the reading I have done in modern European writing, mostly French mysteries and general fiction, some non- fictionthere is a recognition by authors that French society marginalizes their Muslim inhabitants to the toothpick- width different than American blacks were treated by early 60's American South, separate but distinctly different.
I think from that impression I am left with that the folks in France have yet to face the place they live and the world of others living within their lands.
