Interesting, thanks, Marsha! [I mean it]

He seems to be saying that the "scientific method" as commonly misunderstood 
makes science into one big fire-fighting exercise in avoiding scientific 
embarrassment, rather than a broad experiential means of fulfilling sentient 
curiosity about reality.

"Scientific method" in the criticized meaning sounds to me a lot like Pirsig's 
"static latching" gone overboard; an intellectualized attempt to elevate 
science 
to something it never was by defining it in static terms and in the process 
making it into something it never was and thus less capable of valuing DQ than 
it's precursoral experiential approach originally was (or could be). 

Sounds familiar. Just the other side of the same Western mirror.
