Michael,
 The word "merely" was never written nor mentioned in the below post.

My opinion is that the choice of vegetariansim originates in the luxery
of having food to choose from.


Yes the human life vs. personal freedom subject is important but it's
context lies primarily upon how our culture views and values human life
and individual freedom. This was all I was trying to say, not to diminish
it's social significance.

FWIW IMO most discussions in here are utterly pointless arguments of opinion 
(Q or DQ? please!) even when *not* considered against what is arguably the 
most important subject regarding human interaction; the subject of what value 
we ascribe to human life v. personal freedom. That you consider it merely a 
"social and cultural convention" leads me to believe you probably aren't a 
vegetarian either.
