Krimel: In short I think it is worthwhile to discuss different views of the Self and talk about what particular views mean and imply; or to talk about whatever metaphysical implications we see in various concepts of a Self. But to claim it doesn't exist or that you and I do not exist? That seem like the kind of Aw Gi moment that comes from too much pie.
Andre: I fully agree Krimel and am glad you pointed out that any concept of 'I' ought to be seen as a process. I wanted to find a way of getting away from the conventional way the 'I' or the 'individual' is understood (a la Ham for example). That concept is too blown up. egotistical and egocentric. [Krimel] I think what the Randians in our midst miss is that there are many ways of expressing the self that are not "self centered" and do not appeal to the "virtues of selfishness." One of the ways that we express our "selves" is in relation to our families and our communities. For many in the west our feeling of "self" is effected by something as trivial as how well our favorite team is doing in the playoffs.
