Hi Gav,

Consciousness is also a word that begs a definition.

It is my feeling that consciousness is often mistaken for thoughts.  It is
useful
for me to think of consciousness as that which experiences thoughts.  Thoughts
are an expression of our physical bodies, in the same way our beating hear is
I can feel my brain thinking.  The way I see consciousness is it is that
very personal identification with this world.  That personal sense of being.
I suppose it can be called the soul or witness, but when soul is mentioned,
it creates many thoughts of religion and all the baggage that come with it,
which merely makes it another word that begs a definition.

When I am able to relegate my thoughts to just another function of my
body, I am still left with something that is ever there, something that has
been part of me since I was born, and I feel was there before that.  My thoughts
are always changing, and I wouldn't recognize myself if I talked to me as I
was twenty years ago, except that I would sense that presence.

At the expense of relegating my definition of consciousness to that realm
of where it is of no real use, it is the Tao, it is Brahman, it is Quality.
The fact
that it is so personally me, still has me somewhat in awe.

I'm not sure if we are improving our consciousness, our brains are just
trying to get in touch with it.

Cheers,
Willblake2

this first error leads to an avalanche of misconceptions.

there is mystery at the heart of everything - every finitude reveals itself
infinite upon closer inspection. the hologram is a good analogy here.

in other words all parts contain the whole and the whole is infinite, as it
cannot be differentiated.

tat tvam asi. you are this whole. the world is an allegorical/analogical
projection/correspondence of your self - your inner being. this is the domain
of myth; only mythopoetry can decode this relationship twixt inner and outer.

once this point is grasped it becomes clear that the only efficacious way to
change the world is to become more and more conscious. by bringing into
consciousness those elements that were unconscious we disarm them, and not only
that; we also release the energies that these habitual patterns were stymying.
this process of recognition and release transforms the self and by extension
the world.

"the world has not to be put in order: the world is order incarnate. it is for
us to put ourselves in unison with this order, to know what is the world order
in contradistinction to the wishful-thinking orders which we seek to impose on
one another"

this miller quote says it well. the world-order, the Tao, is perfect. the world
is not the problem. the problem is the 'wishful-thinking orders' that we
project onto it and ourselves.

see the change! the world is not fucked. it is perfect. all the war, misery,
hate, greed etc etc - it is the perfect refracted reflection of our unconscious
inner state, and therefore the perfect tool with which to bring this state into
consciousness. (if we keep being confronted with it we eventually have to deal
with it).

gandhi knew this;
eckhart tolle knows this and expresses it with simple precision.
ram dass is good too.

do you see? do you see how politics, economics, ideologies of all stripes:
these are detours, dead-ends. they can accomplish nothing if they are not
predicated on a change in individual consciousness.

the question i would like to ask is that if, as i imagine, we are in the midst
of this evolutionary process, which will culminate in the integration of human
consciousness as a collective 'gaian' mind, will this herald a new static level
above intellect?

cheers
