Intellect and intellectualism I distinguish by their varying source of value. The source of value for intellect is Quality, while the source of value for intellectualism IS the intellect - or some variant thereof -- perception of reality or any number of conceptual models or gods.
The point is, in intellectualism, intellect is held as the highest value, the most important "thing" or pattern of energies that the cosmos produced. Heck, the whole story of evolution is about this gradual struggle up from lower forms to finally crowning itself as the evolutionary point of the whole deal, intellect, sitting on the shoulders of animal man, shooting rockets to the moon. Distinguished by pride, hubris, the arrogance of humanism, the mistake of anthropocentrism. I posit intellectualism is bad. On the other hand, we have intellect. An actual pattern of energies that the cosmos did produce, that does have some fascinating differences from the rest of observable nature in the actuality of it's (intellect's ) dynamic choices, and yet upon reflection recognizes the intellectually logical need for a greater context, a Value which defines "us". in the sense of the intellectual us. Using this godlike tool for its good purpose, makes the only sense I can of an otherwise value-free chaotic existence. I posit intellect is good. Now, what about the levels of morals in the MoQ: Let me ask a question of you, is it ALWAYS more moral for the Dr. to kill the germ? What if the Dr. in question is Dr. Mengele? More pointedly, what if the human biological organismistic intellect is anti-life and evil of a particular brand that only intellectual men can and often do strive for? I think then a strong case can be made that sometimes its more moral for the germ to prevail. In other words, there is a bigger context. And that is what intellectualism doesn't grasp. And another reason why the hierarchy must be overturned. Morality is not determined by rigorous static-level relations. In fact, static-level relations and all consequent morality is determined by dynamicism. The levels themselves are patterns which follow an evolutionary direction of "more dynamic". It's more dynamic to be an amoeba than a crystal. It's more dynamic to be a flock of sea gulls than a worm. It's more dynamic to be an active, thinking intellect than a school of thought. An active thinking intellect might be dynamic, but if that intellect is in the service of a repressive governmental organization whose goal is to stomp or stamp any deviation from strict, static, social norms, then that intellect is anti-dynamic and thus immoral, and oughta get et by the worms. yay worms.
