Ron, I think on July 7-8 was a different powwow, the Schemitzun is usually the last weekend in August, sometimes the first weekend in September. It's huge with tribes represented from all over the country. I've been to the Pequot Museum, and it is a wonderful museum. Yes, maybe next year for the Schemitzun.
I have cds of drumming and singing, and sometimes listening and painting in the middle of the night, it can sweep me away. A vision quest is a special event. I don't think I ever heard of an equivalent event for women in the tribe, only the crazy ones, but I don't know for sure. I once dreamt of being the Fool on the edge of a cliff and contemplating whether to jump or not. Of course I was a failure, because contemplating (analyzing) was the wrong way, and eventually the dream made me realize I was not yet ready for such a leap.
