I think what you posted below is well put John.

As some may appreciate, I have trouble with this
intellectual level as being something at all.  Thoughts
aren't really that significant.

Let's suppose we have something called DQ which aggregates
or coalesces into harmony in the same way that energy seems
to collapse into matter.  Let's say that in addition to the collapse
into things, there is also an aggregation into levels of harmony
or significance.  It would appear that each level is a conglomeration
of the levels below.  The creation of each level is through an
interaction or communication of each level below creating a
significant entity which then assumes a consciousness of its own.

As individuals we are at the biological level and assume the
combined consciousness of the organic/inorganic.  A society
contains a consciousness that we cannot conceive but that
would allow each societal consciousness to perceive the other.
There is the rise and fall and interaction of societies that follow
behavioral patterns, but this is only a small representation of
their consciousness, most of it is beyond our imagination as
mere biologicals.  To create this society, the intellect is used
as a communicative tool, in the same way that biochemistry is
used to create the biological, and chemistry is used to create
the organic, and physics is at the root of inorganic.

Now we must depart from the human aspect of this level
interpretation and look to what societies create, and what
interaction is needed.  All of the humans in the world can
unite, but we only create a bigger society, not something
on another level.

However, the interaction of all levels together, can create a
new level, which we can call the emotional.  The entire
planet exists on a dynamic emotional level.  We feel its
effects as it streams though us, directing us in many ways
towards actionable behavior.

In this way we have created a new level, the Gaia emotional
level.

This explains everything don't it?

"My preference for myself is based on a feeling called the selfish
interest. But this interest is emotional; it is not based on my postulation
of what is not given as real. To allow my interest in myself to determine
my conduct is parallel to the imprudent man's allowing short range
consequences to govern him."

Josiah Royce

"To allow my interest in myself to determine my conduct" is about as close
to a good definition of SOM as I can imagine. SOM is that which places the
source of values within the self-other matrix. The MoQ puts the self-other
matrix within the source of values. There's a handy distinctive way of
looking at it.

You're welcome.

Now, why is this SOM so prevelant? Why does it arise everywhere? I say
it's because of it's emotional reality. All emotions are created by a
primary social relationship which defines a self and defines an other and
gives preference to the "self" side of the equation. Baby is hungry, mom's
nipples ache. Out of this basic biological relationship, a social
arrangement evolves - a conception of self that is biologically reinforced.

Now, reflecting upon this reality and the construction of the levels for the
MoQ, I have come to a startling conclusion based upon the insight given to
me earlier that there are codes of laws or art which are distinct from the
levels, which govern the interaction between levels. The startling
conclusion is that Emotions represent the code of artful behaviour between
the biological and the social level, and INTELLECT represents the code of
art that rules the interaction between the 3rd level and the 4th. Since
intellect is the name of the code of art, we have to name the fourth level
something different than "intellectual". I propose the naming of the 4th
level as "the metaphysical". Thus indicating the transcending essence of
Value.

There. That explains everything. Now are you happy Bo?
