Agreed. A surfer (or driftwood) goes faster or further on a big wave than on a smaller one, regardless of what he thinks. So reality is not subjective. Consider (to extend the ocean metaphor) a coral reef: Is it a huge piece of calcium supporting many life forms or one large life form with a calcium exo-skeleton? If objects were the fundamental reality, only one of these alternatives would be correct. But if patterns are fundamental, both alternatives could be compatible. (That's not to say it could be a pink elephant in a blue tutu.)
