Taking my wife to Reno and going to see Avatar! Woohoo!

Thanks for the link to the Scott Pratt essay on Royce. After a quick review, I came up with the following capsule summary in the author's own words:

"Royce's system of order, called system Σ may contain new continents of order whose existence we do not suspect. By focusing on the notion of boundaries, Royce's logic appears to lend itself to considerations of the character and experience of agents involved in the ordering process of selection. From this starting point, pluralism will necessarily be thought about from the perspective of the boundaries and limits that divide and connect rather than the perspective of either an ultimate unity which treats differences as somehow unreal or a pluralism of absolutely independent entities that treats differences as incommensurable."

In my (esoteric? opinion), numbers are among the "boundaries and limits" by which we order and measure experiential existence. Logic and mathematics are useful in dealing with phenomena of our choosing. They are convenient tools for defining relations in a differentiated universe, but they will never lead us to metaphysical truth.

I hope you and your wife enjoy Avatar in Reno, and that you manage to come away from the gambling tables none the poorer.

Best regards,
Ham
