[John] Well even as a nature-worshipping, tree-hugging, pantheist, I a sorta agree with Platt's point.
[Arlo What? That there are religions that worship nature? Ah duh. What kind of miracle breakthrough was THAT? But this is just an attempt to smear anyone/everyone who waxes the slightest bit towards concern for our environment as some religious zealot (interfering with God's Capitalism!). [John] I think a lot of what passes as environmentalism is actually the desire of SOMish society to ameliorate its worst effects so that it can keep on rolling. [Arlo] No doubt that many responses to SOM effects of production/consumption are, themselves, SOM-based. Pirsig touched on this in ZMM when he talked about "tearing down a factory" without changing the mindset (will simply reproduce another factory).
