[Dave] For me that makes the problem even more difficult. Biological evolution by natural selection at least has a well defined theory with dedicated scientists/philosophers working on it. Evolution, unfolding, at the physical, social, and intellectual levels really don't have any evolutionary theories per se let alone people exploring them from that POV.
[Krimel] I regard evolution as a form of metaphysics precisely because these ideas that originated in biology can be applied to everything from astrophysics to philosophy. Evolutionary thinking is a part of many disciplines today. I fear that, what has stunted to growth of the MoQ is that Pirsig really doesn't, to this day, understand evolutionary theory and how closely connected to it his ideas are. Both the MoQ and evolutionary theory are fundamentally about how static patterns arise and persist in the face of dynamic, chaotic change.
