They were a moral challenge, that's for sure.
But I think it's a mistake to judge socialism by its worst adherents (Hitler,
Mao, Che, etc.).
There are examples of good socialist societies (e.g., Isreali kibbutz, Amish
communities).
These are good because they are voluntary & their members share values.
It is also good to have a socialist paradise just 90 miles from the southeast
tip of the U. S.
That way we have somewhere to send Chomsky & Ted Kennedy when we take power.
