Hi John & all, [John Said] Atheist has practically come to mean "non-christian deists" > but it > really means there is no god at all, or no good at all. It's all just > random. Bob Dylan said "ya gotta serve something" and by this he > means, > every person must have a source of values.
Nope. Quality is not pre-determined. Nope. Every person does not have a fixed, immutable source of values. Instead, the MoQ says every person subscribes to a set of SPOVs which are arranged in a hierarchy according to the level they serve. These SPOVs form the basis of our collective set of values, but they were not pre-ordained. There is no predestination about these SPOVs other than in the sense that one thing may logically lead to another. SPOVs were affirmed by trial and error, and if we were on a different planet, with a different biological basis, our SPOVs would no doubt be entirely different. For most people, there is no desire whatsoever to give their children the gift of independent thought. That is the antithesis of the goal. The goal is to do everything possible to indoctrinate their children into the parental camp as quickly and thoroughly as possible. This serves multiple purposes, most of which are completely unexamined by the perpetrator. By indoctrinating their children into their particular world-view, parents can assure its perpetuation, validate this set of beliefs (see, it's reasonable to somebody besides me), and assuage fear. It is my contention that religious beliefs exist for the sole purpose of ameliorating deep, unacknowledged fear. IMO this sort of childhood brainwashing is child abuse.
