Fiction Marsha? On THIS list? Where? Lu just finished Ben Elton's Blind Faith, and agreed with me that its a great (but scary) read.
Like I said, it's a retelling of 1984, which isn't so much fiction as it is social commentary and I'd say Elton's book is the same. Only Elton, being so much closer to the effects of the image-oriented reality-tv modern bent of culture on our current paradigm, provides quite a twist on what sort of hell we humans are capable of encasing ourselves within.
