First about "consciousness" in the self-awareness sense is part of
intellect-as-SOM's self-assured repertoire, indicating a god's-eye view,
the ultimate knowledge.
Then there is the physiological "conscious/unconscious" dichotomy,
related to "awake/asleep", and here is an observation that I have
forwarded many times without any reaction. All creatures sleep so
when - say - a fish wakes up it must be to a state different from
oblivion, IMO to the biological consciousness. An then there is a
consciousness connected with all static levels, crowned by the Quality
Consciousness
This is inconsistent with intellect-as-SOM's "consciousness" which is
demonstrated by most people's attitude to the A.I. issue, of machines
suddenly waking up ("Hey I'm a computer") to THE one and only
consciousness.

Joe, you are priceless;-) A Mr Dick of "David Copperfield" if you know
it? Anyway "consciousness" may (also) be seen as one of many
unassimilated concepts - besides Quality - that may have been the
base for a new anti-SOM metaphysics, more like what I sketch above
with each level a "consciousness level". However, as it just would be
a MOQ replica it's too late. Quality is the mother of them all.
