This quote from Pirsig, by Platt, is the smartest thing I've seen him say to
date. However, I think the moq leaves society vulnerable to this very
naivety, and guarantees that coercion will need to be brought to bear.

 This is what the founders of America knew. You can read such sentiments
permeating the founders writings. Look at Washington's farewell address for
example. Alexander Hamilton said the same. "We the People" were assumed to
be a moral people.

One quote by William Penn is typical, "We will be governed by God, or ruled
by tyrants". And the history of Marxism eloquently verifies this sentiment.
