bubble chambers can be as tiny as a teacup.
they use boiling water to make the path of the partikel visible.

The Kamiokande-experiment uses extremely purified water to do the same.
And the scale of the detektor is very extreme.

They had a very big accident with imploding Pmt's, after witch the reactor was 
downscaled, the price was too high to repair.

It is used now in a lesser form, less Pmt's.But it still works.
